Cop Killings

In the four or so years I’ve been blogging, I’ve said the most inappropriate things and pissed so many people off. The hate mail I used to get when I was an anti-racist blogger were so horrendous that I decided to stop writing anything that has to do with social justice, race, current affairs or anything that will create a heated discussion in the comments section (which is why my blog was discontinued). With that said, I can’t believe I’m the only person who is skeptical about the recent media frenzy regarding the spate of Cop Killings?
Don’t get me wrong, I think the whole thing is terrible and my thoughts are with the families of the cops that got murdered but, I can’t help but feel as though the Police Ministry is using the media to change the public’s perception about the Police. The whole country, and to a lesser extent the whole world, were shocked to witness the brutality that took Andries Tatane’s life and they began to see what people living in poor black areas (or anyone who has been to a protest) have been experiencing since the days of apartheid (no, really), namely the SAPS have a nasty habit of using unnecessary force against us citizens. Now that the Jig is over, they’re using the media to make it seem as though the criminals have waged a war against brave police men and women and therefore, lethal force is necessary to counter that. But in an age where cops supply ammunition to ATM bombers who exactly are the criminals? Us? Just a thought.

Update: The Police Murder rate is actually down. Hmmm….
