Back during the dark days and bright nights of high school, when I didn’t have school to keep me busy or on the rare occasion that I had been sober enough for my demons to reappear, I would walk for hours just to clear my mind, I have the flawless calves to prove it. I’m not trying to admit that my teenage-self’s demons are back or anything, and even if they were, I don’t think I’d be brave enough to admit it here. Anyhoo, This Saturday was one of those days when I didn’t feel like people, unfortunately for me, we had tons of visitors at home. On Saturdays I usually wake up at around midday, this Saturday was no different, woke up to a sound of people laughing, quickly realized that I wouldn’t be fun be around all grumpy and shit plus there was no way I could watch the Telkom Charity Cup on television, I took a shower and left. Having nowhere no go, I took a book that I’m currently reading and headed for the train station, to catch up on my reading.
I buy seasonal train tickets, I decided to put them to good use. I arrived at the train station and boarded a train to Johannesburg via Booysens. Train to jo’burg via Booysens are relatively empty, so I found it easy to read, Arrived at Johannesburg at about 14h30, went outside the station to buy a steak and kidney pie, went back to the station to eat it and read some more, while waiting for the train back to Naledi (My ‘hood) via Booysens. The train arrived, read some more on my way back home. Got home an hour before the telkom cup final, refreshed. Everybody had already left, not that it made a difference ’cause I was planning to watch the final with my boys over a couple of cold beers. Taking train rides to nowhere looks is my fatter, lazier version of walking to clear my mind.
